AI, AR, VR, BCI — Please make this ride stop. I am getting dizzy, aren’t you?
You decide to get on a rollercoaster. You are the nauseating and dizzying type but you decided to do it because you thought you would be able to finally conquer it.
With great excitement you climb and the thing begins. It starts slow. You wonder why you were scared all these years.
But two minutes in, it gets faster. You begin to panic. Your head spins and your throat fills. You feel like throwing up. You hear yells all around.
Soon you think you won’t make it back alive. You imagine a scenario where people gather around your unconscious body. You hear an ambulance. This makes you even more nervous.
Your head hurts. The yells you hear get louder and crazier but you can’t care anymore. You are about to pass out. You close your eyes.
And then you shake your head and tell yourself you shouldn’t be weak.
You look around. You see people with their mouths wide open holding whatever they can find.
Your mouth is dry.
The ride is fast.
Your head spins and hurts. Your throat is heavy. You then have a thought:
This will end soon. Yes, this ride won’t last forever. I just need to hang in for a few minutes now. And this ride will end. I will never get into this again. I shouldn’t have today. But what does it matter? This will end in a minute or two.
But then the ride gets faster. The yells get louder. The head spins faster and aches worse.
This will end soon. Yes, this ride won’t last forever. I just need to hang in for a few minutes now. And this ride will end. I will never get into this again. I shouldn’t have today. But what does it matter? This will end in a minute or two.
And it ends after a few minutes.
You come out alive and smile at whoever you went on the ride with.
‘That was scary! But I had a lot of fun,’ your companion says. ‘What about you?’
‘Yeah…it was fun,’ you say. But you are thankful you came out alive. This is what you think:
It was too confusing. Too frantic. Too chaotic. Too fast. I am glad it ended.
In a corner of this world, there is a guy who looks at what is happening in the world with technology and says the same:
This will end soon. Yes, this chaos won’t last forever. We just need to hang in for a few years now. And this technomania will end. The world should never get into this again. It shouldn’t have. But what does it matter, This will end in a year or two. This is too confusing. Too frantic. Too chaotic. Too fast. I hope it ends.
But you go on a roller coaster again and the world keeps developing new technology again and again…
